Get Up & Get Moving

It's official!  The change in seasons is now unmistakable.  Recent rains, along with warming temperatures and longer days, have combined to bring all of the trees, bushes, and grasses out of dormancy.  I love this time of year!

For me, the change in seasons coincides with a change in my exercise routine.  The Country Music Marathon last Saturday (13.1 miles in 2:07) marked the end of my running season.  Tuesday, I went on my first bike ride.  I went 16 miles in a little more than an hour and burned up 800 calories.  I was excited to see that the Shelby Bottoms Greenway now connects to the old Cornelia Fort Airport runway.  This makes for a perfectly straight, long, level ride.  I enjoy riding from my office to Two Rivers Park and across the pedestrian bridge and into Shelby Bottoms.

I have been hearing from my patients all winter long that the weather has been too bad to walk outside. Well, now is the time to start!  In a few months, it may become too hot to walk outside so start today!   A nice walk burns some calories, strengthens the heart, clears the mind, and even results in fewer back and neck problems.
